Space Colony

SciFi videos to the contrary the setting up of a true colony of earth on a distant space planet with another star is going to be extremely complex. How complex? Watch the video by Dr. Cameron Smith in a public lecture at Perimeter Institute, Waterloo Ontario.

Set back? So am I. As you can gather from the video this is just the start of what is sure to be a very interestingly long series

Cyber Crime

Computer crime, or cybercrime in Canada, is an evolving international phenomenon. People and businesses in a and other countries may be affected by computer crimes that may, or may not originate within the borders of their country. From a Canadian perspective, ‘computer crime’ may be considered to be defined by the Council of Europe – Convention on Cybercrime. Canada contributed, and is a signatory, to this international of criminal offences involving the use of computers. (Wikipedia).

Indigenous Methodologies

What are Indigenous research methodologies, and how do they unfold? Indigenous methodologies flow from tribal knowledge, and while they are allied with several western qualitative approaches, they remain distinct. These are the focal considerations of Margaret Kovach’s study, which offers guidance to those conducting research in the academy using Indigenous methodologies. (Amazon Quote)

Blogme

Every time I look at news items I read “a must comment” on some only to find that either commenting was closed or the news source deemed the item worthy but not for a reader to voice opinion. So I decided for self & reader to vent I would provide “Blogme” to write & readers to comment. Here it is. ………….

Trudeau says evidence indicates Iranian missile brought down Ukrainian flight. This though is not where the item started. Perhaps there were intelligence reports that provided information of planned future humanity violations on the part of Iranians but first public news was of US missile charged drone attacks on Iranian destinations. Iranians may have made a mistake in the retaliation by destruction of a Ukrainian passenger plane but it happened. My opinion is that human rights end up being violated brutally whenever mankind leaders tiff & lose cool.

Indigenous grandfather and 12-year-old handcuffed in front of Vancouver bank after trying to open an account. Our GG promotes “Togetherness” in Canada & as part of that we have Indigenous & Settler. Additionally we hear, Spearheaded by Amnesty International, of Canadian human rights violations at Grassy Narrows (Ont.) & Site C damsite (BC). My opinion is that despite the GG & PM giving hurry-up calls we are dragging feet in matters that could best be cared for in friendly pow wows FOLLOWED by writeups in strict legal language.

A ‘big surprise’ and a lot of questions: Why Harry and Meghan’s new life is anything but clear. Duke and Duchess of Sussex to ‘step back’ from roles as senior members of Royal Family. For many years Harry has been the Royal presented as a person with unruly spontaneous acts. Presently repeated on this occasion in my opinion. In effect on the life of this commoner NONE. All could have been avoided by not “putting the cart before the horse”.

Canada added 35,000 jobs in December, capping strong 2019 for employment. Each time I look at news these days there is an article moaning & groaning about lost jobs, mainly on a production line or petroleum connected. Overall though it appears that last year was a winner.

Laws (Indigenous/Settlers)

Link To Discussion Forum (Press)

What follows in this post is strictly the understanding of this layperson (William Stephenson). Canadian settler, citizen of Canada for several decades.

We all pay Canadian taxes. We are all Canadian citizens. We are together. As Canadian citizens all is equal (NO).

Citizens of Canada have equal Canadian laws. (NO).

I understand that many past treaties have been broken. I understand that both indigenous & settlers are Canadian citizens. I understand that all Canadians have laws to live to. I understand that the majority of Canadian citizens want togetherness whether they be indigenous descendants or more recent settlers . I DO NOT understand why a series of friendly Pow Wows followed by adjustments to rights cannot produce Canadian laws for all.

Let’s Get Together

Togetherness (Indigenous/settlers) we all want for there is much to learn from each. We are making a series of halting starts but there is so much to be gained now & much more later if we work together & go the whole way.

Treaty versus Strict Law. (Treaties by Commoners. Strict by Lawyers). Oh dear. Let’s be good permanent friends & work it all out in common language then re-writing to legalese (successfully to the surprise of others in this world). Legalese often takes a while & meantime the conflict is still festering. Perhaps we can find a way to act immediately while the strict legalese is created.

On togetherness Canadians (we are all Canadians) are off to a poor start. After centuries that have caused treaty grief the signers never intended,

Perhaps if the terms of any particular relation are first negotiated in friendly meetings using every day language & between all parties then re-written in strict Canadian (we are all citizens) legal terms & agreed once again by all parties we will avoid these ugly sensational happenings which are counter to future good will.

Togetherness we all want,

Together (Indigenous & Settlers).

I quote Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada:

“Whether you were born here or chose to come and live here, whether you are just passing through or came here to seek refuge, this is your country, a land of breathtaking beauty that deserves to be explored and celebrated. Rain, snow or shine.

For we are fortunate. We share values and interests. We can be proud of our diversity, and we are recognized around the world as open, curious, team players, peace-seekers, peace-keepers.

And we are accomplished, like the Indigenous people who have been living here on this ancestral land for thousands of years. Those who taught us to survive in the cold, to appreciate the gift of nature and the importance of community.”

It is about time that in this great country Canada with great & friendly citizens we harness these readily apparent qualities.

There is much written on broken treaties, indigenous schooling, poor service to Northern communities where many natives live & even about a shocking history of missing & murdered women.

Populism

When my mind turns to electoral populism & without a close look on my part I automatically say to myself “the no-thinkers”. I am showing myself as having been a no-think person though not yet a populist as I understand that group. Time to take a look.

Wikipedia defines populism “Populism in Canada involves the phenomenon of populist political ideology in Canada. Populism has been a particularly strong phenomenon in Western Canada and in Quebec as promoted by the provincial Social Credit parties in the West and in Quebec and by the Social Credit Party of Canada and by the Reform Party of Canada.”

As an aid & not other than partly agreeing I use the CCAP as my background thinking.

Nothing in democratic electoral politics is straight forward & populism is a good example where the driving force is to become an elected majority but the well being of a democracy, as there is a move into the future, may depend on different policies because of the drive to become an elected majority next time around. Politicians needs have the skill to speak out of both sides of their mouth to promote successful policies but differing from those that got them elected without upsetting their base. Complex? Yes.

Populism when this was written at the start of year 2020 is. well, popular in different democracies around the globe. In this age of rapid & thorough communication people are looking & so there is a multiplier effect. So glad that I am not a politician living in a world of duplicity.
